Joel Lanik

Growing up in rural Nebraska, a career in growth equity might not have appeared the obvious choice for Joel. But with a father running a business in the healthcare sector and an early attraction to the world of finance, Joel has made his entire career in and around growth-stage companies.

A Partner at Frontier Capital, Joel works across the business with a remit to drive new innovations in how we grow our portfolio companies and uncover the right ingredients for a winning investment strategy—one that has the potential to make them scalable, durable, and which will deliver sustained growth over time.

Influenced by leaders including Warren Buffett, Ray Dalio and Jim Collins, Joel believes in building business for the long term, giving them the transparent advice they need to hear (even if they don’t always want to hear it).

Joel has a BA in Economics from Duke University and an MBA from Darden School of Business. He was previously Vice President of Finance and Strategy at LURHQ (now a part of Secureworks).

Outside the office, you’ll find him sweating it on the tennis court, cooking up his signature pulled pork on the grill, and shopping for way too many sneakers.
